How to Clean up Hard Drive for Windows and Mac

There are situations when we have to use the same drive between the computer systems running on Windows and MacOS. But that occurs is both of these devices have their file system differing from each other. Mac uses HFC which is completely different from the Windows NTFS platform.

So if the situation comes up where you have to use the hard drive in both systems, then formatting the drive to make compatible for both devices using exFAT file system will help you to use the drive. The exFAT file system is another platform which is compatible and readable to both the operating systems. So let’s see the ways to clean up the hard drive in Windows and MacOS systems.
Here’s how to clean up hard drive for Windows and Mac
Cleaning up Hard Drive in Windows System
1.       Connect a drive with your Windows system.
2.       Now, press Windows key + S button to open the search menu. If the key combination doesn’t work out, then refer the search in the Start menu.
3.       Now, type disk format or disk management and press enter.
4.       If it is difficult with the Windows search option, then open Control Panel.
5.       Now open Administrative Tools and click on the Create and format hard disk partitions.
6.       Right click on the unallocated space. A menu will open.
7.       Choose New Simple Volume.
8.       Now, follow the New Simple Volume Wizard and choose the volume size.
9.       Check the Assign the following drive letter and click the drop-down arrow.
10.   Select any letter from the menu.
11.   Check the Format this volume with the following settings and proceed to the Filesystem.
12.   Now, select exFAT and proceed to give a name to the volume.
13.   Now, click Next and then Finish.
14.   Windows will format the drive which you can use again.
Cleaning up Hard Drive on Mac System

2.       Press CMD and spacebar to open the Disk Utility.
3.       Now, navigate to the drive which you want to format.
4.       Click the Erase button from the upper toolbar.
5.       Now, give the drive a description name.
6.       Click Erase to wipe out OS X drive.
7.       Now click Partition located just next to Erase from the upper toolbar.
8.       Click the Apply button and select the new untitled partition.
9.       Click Erase and now name the partition.
10.   Select exFAT for the format.
11.   Click the Erase button and finish the process.
The exFAT formatted drive can be used in both the systems running on MacOS and Windows. But remember that if you use the same drive between both the operating systems, then the chances for the drive to get corrupted will rise.
