How to Fix Left-Click Malfunction of Mouse in Windows

The most used function that allows us to open files and programs is the left-click of your mouse. This function confirms commands on your PC. Its non-functioning is one of most common PC problems that is often faced by the users. There are plenty of reasons why the left click may not be working smoothly or stops working. This post is going to list some of the most acceptable solutions for fixing left-click not working issue by users who faced such a problem.

What can be probable reason for the issue?

Don't forget to check whether it is a software problem or there is an issue with hardware. For testing hardware, you can connect the mouse to another PC and check if it works or not. If you have o access to any other PC, you can try connecting any other mouse to your computer to see if the problem is the same or not. If the hardware turns out to be faulty, then the mouse is to be replaced.

How to fix software-related issues?

If it turns out that hardware is fine, but the mouse is still not working correctly, then the issue can be with software. It needs to be solved as soon as possible. There can be two countable issues with the mouse. Either the left-click is not working in some areas, or it is totally stagnant. But thankfully both of these issues are fixable.

Left-click not responding to the specific command

·        The first solution- Restart the PC

This probably is the simplest solution and the best one. Simply turn off the PC and turn it back to see if the problem is fixed or not. During the process of the restart, many driver conflicts and corrupted system files will be solved itself. Quite easy, isn't it?

·        Second solution- Run Windows hardware troubleshooter

Windows has a built-in hardware troubleshooter that will solve and scan many of the external device problems itself like the problem with the monitor, mouse, keyboard, etc. For running troubleshooter, go to Control panel and open “System and Security.”Access Troubleshoot common computer problems option below the heading of “Security and Maintenance.”

Now open the option of Configure a device below the “Hardware and Sound” option and start the process of troubleshooting. Windows will automatically scan and try to solve the detected problem. Even if it can't solve the problem, it will let you know about the problem. Do not get skeptical if troubleshooter gives error “Hardware changes might not have been detected.” The troubleshooter gives this error just for being sure that you don’t miss any recent hardware changes. It has nothing to do with left click problem.

·        Third solution-Uninstall and reinstall antivirus software

At times, your antivirus programs may mess with the proper working of the mouse, especially the one with anti-keylogger. Uninstall your antivirus program and then restart the PC. If the issue is resolved, you can reinstall the antivirus program again. The chances are good that the problem will not occur when you reinstall it.

·         Fourth solution- Re-register Windows Apps

This issue can simply be resolved for many users by merely re-registering Windows Apps only. Any misbehaving Windows app will be fixed using this simple solution.

·         To register Windows apps, press Winows+R keys and write PowerShell in (Run) dialog.
·         Windows PowerShell will open up.
·         Enter the command.
·         Now, Powershell will re-register all the packages.

·        Fifth solution- Uninstall recent Windows update

If this issue has come up just after Windows update, then you can uninstall current Windows update files to fix the problem. Just go to “System and Security” and open View Installed updates option below the heading of “Windows Update.” You will here see all Windows update files with recent on top. Look for the time of update’s installation and uninstall updates that were installed before left-click issue appeared.
